AIM AND SCOPE Borderlands, regions where distinct social, political, and economic systems converge, offer invaluable cases where prevailing orthodoxies about the conventional manners of conducting daily affairs in society blurs into an undefined zone. Yet, these borderlands across the world also provide an illegible, often obscure to our everyday lens, systems of everyday activities that are distinctively shaped by these regions alone. Activities and practices arising out of such an idiosyncratic ecological milieu, enabled by the porous international borders, permit the development of specific cross-border economic, social, and cultural cross-border practices. Thus, giving rise to societies that operate and function differently from those in the heartland, such as urban metropolises within nation-states.
